The 17th Annual State Barbeque Champtionship of Nebraska will be held August 22-23 at Sokol Park. This is conveniently located approx 5 miles south of Bellevue on Hwy 75 - just north of the Platte River. The setting is in a wonderful wooded area that is just perfect for a barbeque contest. The pavillion offers shelter, restrooms, and also sells ice, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. Live music by a legendary Omaha band "The Rumbles" will play on stage on Friday night.

Besides our sanctioned contest of Chicken, Ribs, Pork and Brisket, our 5th category is "Anything But BBQ" - which is anything but Chicken, Ribs, Pork and Brisket. We look forward to receiving some exciting entries!

In addition, you can enter the "Sides" contest, "Beans" contest (sponsored by the Nebraska Dry Bean Board), and "Dessert" contest . . . YUMMY!

SAUCES - We will again be featuring the ever-popular PEOPLE'S CHOICE BBQ SAUCE CONTEST. This is an opportunity for bothe the serious BBQ enthusiast as well as the weekend novice to compete for recognition and pride, as well as ribbons and cash prizes! Contestants may enter as many samples as they care to in both the "Tomato-based" and "other" categories. Entry fee is just $5 per sample. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each category as follows:

Sauces must be turned in by 6 p.m. on Friday evening. Public judging will be conducted Friday evening, August 22, from 6-10 p.m. and Saturday, August 23 from 9 a.m. - noon at the GOBS booth on the contest grounds. Winners will be announced at the Awards ceremony on Saturday afternoon. You need not be present to win.

KID'S "QUE" - Where are the great BBQ champions of the future? I'm sure they're tagging along right next to you - they're your kids, of course. So, to get them started on their BBQ journey, we will again offer a KIDS "QUE." Your children will have the opportunity to build their own kabobs (we will furnish the basics - meat and veggies). They simply need to bring their own marinades, seasonings and anything else they would like to use to enhance their presentation.

Parents - we want this to be a "kid experience" so let them help you with the marinades, rubs and what they want to use for presentation. GOBS members will be there to help the kids so the parents will be spectators!

"BEST PARTY BOOTH" - Now just for fun - here's a chance for you to get those creative juices flowing. Using the theme of "CAMP 'N QUE," decorate your area to win "bragging rights" (and prizes) for the "Best Party Booth" in Camp! Just think Cabela's, Canfields, Bass Pro and you'll come up with ideas. DECORATIONS like a moosehead hanging from the front of your camper (it could serve a dual purpose by keeping the bears away); MUSIC (Home, Home on the Range comes to mind), FOOD - just think back to your Girl Scout or Boy Scout camping days. (Or ask a Girl Scout or Boy Scout as I don't want give away all my secrets!!!) No cost involved - just a lot of fun.
